No more MMA in North Vancouver

Bad news for MMA fans in North Vancouver Canada, the City of North Vancouver city council stopped any sanctioning of MMA events in the future as they voted to disband the North Vancouver Athletic Commission. That means no MMA events, and lost revenue for the city of Vancouver. The ignorant views of the council members will not only affect MMA fans, but it will mean millions of dollars in potential revenue will be lost.

As usual, bad press is partially to blame for the council’s decision, instead of fact. A gay man was attacked by two brothers after a June UFC event held in Vancouver, and of course anyone who watches the UFC and MMA is automatically a homophobe and fighting skill.

Vancouver city council squashed any possibility that the city will sanction any more mixed martial arts events during the remainder of the two-year regulation trial period it agreed on when it passed a vote to disband the North Vancouver Athletic Commission Monday night, according to the Northshore Outlook.

Less than two weeks after firing the head of the commission, longtime MMA advocate, Mirko Mladenovic and replacing him with one of their own, city bureaucrat, Dave Rudberg, the city has gone back on its word that it would give the sport a chance for 24 months.

“I’ve watched enough of it (Ultimate Fighting Championship) channel surfing to know that I find it repugnant … barbaric,” said Coun. Pam Bookham in the interview with The Outlook.
